Entry Requirement

International Students entering this course at TIV must meet the following entry requirements:

Age Requirement

All international students must be at least 18 years old at the time of course application.

English Language Requirement

IELTS band score of 5.5 (Academic or general version) or equivalent internationally recognised exam result in line with DIBP regulations; or
IELTS band score of 5.0 (Academic or general version) then satisfactory completion of ELICOS or ESL up to 20 weeks at upper intermediate level; or
Completed secondary studies equivalent to an Australian Year 12 qualification from an English speaking country; or
Completed secondary studies equivalent to an Australian Year 12 qualification from level 1 countries as identified by DIBP.

Academic Requirement:

All international students must have completed an equivalent of Australian Year 12, VCE or its equivalent overseas qualification.


TIV will also administer Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Evaluation test to all students to ensure that they have the ability to complete the course. This test will occur prior to course commencement and will be assessed by an authorised TIV Delegate or qualified Trainer/Assessor.

Learner Need Analysis

Learner’s need and suitability will be identified through the enrolment form completed by the learner and a Pre-training Interview conducted prior to the enrolment into the course or the commencement of study. The interview will:

confirm the learners’ previous experience, if any
obtain copies of the learner’s resume and any qualifications or previous study associated with hospitality industry
identify any learning needs, adjustments or any support required (see reasonable adjustments)

This qualification reflects the role of highly skilled senior operators who use a broad range of hospitality skills combined with managerial skills and sound knowledge of industry to coordinate hospitality operations. They operate independently, have responsibility for others and make a range of operational business decisions.

Qualification & Recognition

On successful completion of this course students will be eligible to achieve Diploma of Hospitality

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT)

International students may be eligible for credit for previous studies they have undertaken. Recognition of Prior Learning is a process where a student may be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through past work experience, life experience and/or credit transfer from previous formal training. TIV will recognise AQF qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by another registered training organisation.

Students are encouraged to apply for RPL/CT prior to or immediately after formal enrolment but prior to the facilitated delivery of units to ensure that they do not miss any class/workshop opportunities offered should they be unsuccessful in the RPL process.
